THE MAKING

An accomplished baker, Rainer shares a passion for traditionally prepared foods with those of you who appreciate fine baking. This commitment to quality is evident in every one of our delicious, hand-made creations. And our friendly, down-to-earth service is the icing on the cake.

THE BLUESBERRY BAKERY SPIRIT

The name Bluesberry is the obvious combination  of Rainer's passion for blues music and cuisine. The Bakery as become a little hangout place for regular customers. A few lucky ones have their own presonnalised coffee cups hanging there.

FRESHED BAKED EVERY MORNING

Every morning Rainer is there making sure that all is fresh before the door opens and customers come in for their warm strudels,  croissants or scones.

After completing studies at the Culinary Institute of Bremen, in West Germany, where he trained in French, German and Swiss cuisine, Rainer worked in a series of five star hotels in Germany. In 1980, he moved to Lake Placid where he worked at the Adirondack Inn and the Alpine Cellar. He then moved to Washington DC and occupied different functions in a series of fine restaurants such as Paolo’s Ristorante and J.Odette.

Later, he completed studies at the Culinary Institute of America, in New York, specializing in patisserie and baking, before creating Bluesberry Bakery, as we know it today.

At Bluesberry Bakery, the day starts at 4 am.
